TEACHWORTH, Alan Ross, 61, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2018. Alan was born on May 7, 1957 in Ionia, Mich. He was the youngest of three sons of Marguerite and Corris Teachworth. Alan arrived in Richmond in 1971 and graduated from Henrico High School. He worked as a hair stylist for many years and had a devoted following. However, he experienced an unfortunate disabling event that prevented continuing in his loved profession. He began working at the YMCA in Ashland, Va. as the receptionist and over time, became a recognized and much beloved fixture of the organization and the Ashland community as a whole. In spite of his condition, no matter where he went he befriended people with his wit and charm. You could not accompany Alan into a store without many people stopping to converse with him. Due to his continuing condition he also retired from the YMCA. Alan was artistic and enjoyed learning and creating works of art, especially oil painting. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing elaborate meals for his family. Whenever anyone visited, when asked he was quick to recommend a local restaurant, both fine dining and diners. He knew all the best places in the Richmond area. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Ashland and converted and sponsored others into the church. Alan was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus of Council number 7538 in Ashland. He was also a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians In America. One of his best friends and faithful companions was his pet Macaw named Rico. Alan was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite Rose Teachworth. He is survived by his father, Corris L. Teachworth; brothers, Laurence K. Teachworth and Robert M. Teachworth; nephew and niece, Christopher and Chelsea Teachworth, Brian R. Teachworth and Nicole Yount and niece, Anna R. Teachworth. Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2018, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 105 S. Snead St., Ashland, Va. 23005. He will be interred at Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover, Va. Alan has requested that, in lieu of flowers, that donations be given to the Little Sisters of the Poor. Donations can be made online at littlesistersofthepoor virginia.weshareonline.org or at Little Sisters of the Poor, 1503 Michaels Rd., Henrico, Va. 23229.
