ASHLAND 4TH OF JULY PARADE - 11a 7/4

Any of those who were at the business meeting a couple weeks back can attest that our gregarious Sentinel P.J. George made a compelling case for the Dooley Division to mix in a little green to the Red, White and blue celebration. Paulie pushed for us to represent for many years and pre-pandemic we had numbers in the double digits on Ashland's Main St. It's a parade route comparable to the one we navigate up on Church Hill (manageable for one and all). We'll be there with the banner lining up after 10:30a at Henry Clay Elementary School for the short parade starting at 11am. Events over there go until 2p, but certainly can march in the parade and be back at the Columbian Center before the Guinness is tapped and flowing.

This week we have come upon a centennial of monumental significance in Ireland's history, the Irish Civil War. This conflict was borne out of the divisions within Ireland after the Anglo-Irish Treaty was put into effect earlier in 1922 in the aftermath of the Irish War of Independence. As with all civil wars, it was a brother vs. brother fight. In the spirit of those old "Bicentennial Minutes" CBS had in the 70's (I think just about all of us are of the age that we can remember those), we're going to do "bite sized" retrospects of what was transpiring in 100 years back. Hopefully this can tie us over until Division Historian Brian Hegarty can give us deeper dives when we get together for meetings again in the fall. Any feedback and/or corrections are welcome!
