FR. GEORGE'S OBITUARY
ZAHN, Rev. George E., 82, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Margaret E. Zahn; sister, Agnes Furilla; and brothers, Denis, Daniel and Thomas Zahn. He is survived by his brother, John Zahn and his wife, Rhonda; nieces, Sondra and Christine Zahn; nephews, Denis Zahn, Sean and Bryan Furilla. The family will receive friends from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 909 Rennie Ave., Richmond, Va., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.

Father Zahn was our Chaplain for many years. Back when we used to meet at the old Columbian Center, Father Zahn traveled across town to attend. At that time, we had no religious presentation as part of our monthly meetings. When I became President, I asked him if he would prepare something for each meeting. He was glad to do that. However, we also did not have food at our meetings then. Father Zahn said that if he provided food for the soul, we should also provide food for the body. From that point forward, for several years, we had both religion and food at every meeting, thanks to him.
When St. Paul's addition was completed, he invited us to meet there. He was a proud host of his new facility and welcomed us with open arms. He hosted St. Patrick's Day Mass during that time and brought a St. Patrick's relic which we venerated during Mass. He always tried to do the extra for the Hibernians.
Father had a tough time dealing with family health issues. He had to travel to see his Mother well after he had the energy to do so. But he fought off his own health issues to take care of his Mother. In addition to being a good priest, he was a good and loving son.
Father hasn't been able to be with us lately. Nevertheless, he leaves a legacy of service to the Hibernians, and a deep sense of caring for our members. We will miss his spirit as he helped us to grow to the size we are now. If anyone wants to break out their rosary beads, I think that would make him proud.
