Brother reader reader ,

Sad news to pass on this morning. We lost a long time Dooley brother yesterday Ed Gillikin. He just celebrated a decade in the division this past spring. Ed was an active member of the Knights for years and Charter Grand Knight & Current Grand Knight of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Council as well as Faithful Navigator of the Richmond Assembly Fourth Degree K of C. Will advise on the time of his funeral on Thursday.

shared from Kevin Almeida of the Knights State Council...
It is with the deepest sadness and grief that I report the passing of my very good friend and mentor Council #14034's current Grand Knight and Assembly #3066 Trustee, SK Brother Edward J. Gillikin, Sr. yesterday, Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:12 a.m. at MCV Hospital in Richmond, VA. Brother Gillikin was surrounded by his wife, Ann, his son, Ed Gillikin, Jr., daughter Ann-Marie, daughter-in-law Cathy, and his grandchildren. Brother Gillikin was involved in an automobile accident on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 8:54 a.m. at the I-64/Mechanicsville exit while returning from a Patriotic Degree Internment of Angels. He had a medical situation that caused him to lose control of his vehicle striking another car from behind. The other driver did not suffer any serious injuries. Brother Gillikin was taken to MCV where his condition continued to deteriorate and he never regained consciousness to communicate with his family. Father Nicholas Redmond from St. John's Church in Highland Springs, VA provided Last Rites to Brother Gillikin on Thursday evening and read the Litany of Saints.
Per my conversations with his son, Edward J. Gillikin, Jr. (who is also a knight at St. Mary's in West End Henrico), I have been asked to assist in coordinating between the family and the Knights and the current plan is as follows:

Open Casket viewing an hour or so prior to and the Mass of Resurrection will be on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at St. John's Church located at 813 West Nine Mile Road, Highland Springs, VA, 23075. The exact time is pending Brother Gillikin, Jr., and the Pastor's meeting on Sunday. Look for more details to be forthcoming.
The family is requesting a Color Corp Honor Guard for his upcoming funeral and internment. As the Assembly Navigator, I have asked for volunteers from Sir Knights from our Assembly #3066 Color Corp to assist in this endeavor. Our Worthy Assembly #3066 Color Corp Commander SK Steve Ford will coordinate and solicit volunteers to properly honor our Brother who gave much service, dedication, and love to the VA State Council, the Patriotic Degree, and the Virginia District.
Burial will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023 at All Saints Cemetery (formerly St. Paul's Cemetery) located at 2701 Elm Avenue, Portsmouth, VA, 23704. The exact time is pending as well. I am waiting to confirm with Ed Gillikin, Jr. but the family may want an Honor Guard present for the internment.
We ask that every Knight and their family pray for the family of Grand Knight Gillikin, Sr., his wife Ann, his children Ed Gillikin, Jr. and Ann-Marie, and grandchildren that the Lord may comfort them during this very difficult time and to ease their grief at Brother Gillikin, Sr.'s sudden passing. Please pray for the repose of SK Brother Edward J. Gillikin, Sr.'s soul that he may through all of the years of dedication and service to others be counted towards a swift uniting with our Lord in Heaven. Deus Benedicat et Requiescat In Pace!
