ST. ELIZABETH'S BREAKFAST - SUN 2/23 after 9am MASS

Once again we'll be worshiping with our brothers and sisters over at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in the Highland Park section of Richmond. This will be the sixth year we have helped out with breakfast after the 9am Mass for our own Fr. Jim Arsenault's flock. Fr. Jim has been given huge support for our division over the years and is our Hibernian brother. As in the past several years, the LAOH Mary Ryan Division will be joining us with the prep and serving of the food. Please sign up on the Dooley Division website or e-mail/call me, Tim McDonnell (804-678-9764) if you are able to help with a food item (breakfast casserole, pastry, donuts, bagels, etc....it will all be welcome). Our breakfast will be in between their two Sunday Masses (their 11:30a Mass has just been added).

RECAP FROM VIRGINIA MARCH FOR LIFE

from Division Right to Life Chair Mike Smith

On Thursday, February 13th, I attended the Second Annual Virginia March For Life at the State Capitol. Here are some of the takeaways from the event:

During the last statewide election Virginia became a national battleground. Planned Parenthood spend a lot of money on local elections. This year the General Assembly moved quickly to roll back limits on abortion in the state. House Bill 980 would eliminate a 24 hour waiting period, mandatory ultrasounds, and a requirement to provide certain information to women before they can have an abortion. The bill, which passed on Jan 28th on a 52-45 vote, would also expand the types of medical professionals allowed to perform abortions from only physicians to include physicians assistants and nurse practitioners.
Sen. Jennifer McClellan- Richmond- has similar legislation, Senate Bill 733, which the Senate approved Jan 29th, with Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax breaking a 20-20 tie.

The speakers stressed how important it is to know who your representatives are. How did they vote on this issue? Let them know if you approved or disapproved of their vote.
A lot of good work for the last ten years or so was overturned on close votes. Pay attention to our next round of local elections. Do the candidates respect life?
Consider getting involved with Pro Life groups.

One of the organizers of the event was the Virginia Society for Human Life. On their website you can sign the Petition to stop the pro-abortion amendment to the Virginia Constitution. Our politicians are attempting to amend the Virginia Constitution to eliminate any and all restrictions on abortion up until birth. This amendment would eliminate restrictions on taxpayer funding and parental consent.
